The Essex County Public Health Reserve Corp is part of the Essex County Medical Reserve Corps system.  If you would like to learn more, here are some FAQs:

What is the Essex County Public Health Reserve Corp?

The ECPHRC enhances your community's emergency preparedness by ensuring that a trained group of healthcare professionals and community volunteers are ready to respond to a public health emergency.  The MRC will distribute antibiotics and vaccine during an emergency.   This is part of a federal and state program to help support local area needs. 

Who can join the NJMRC?

The NJMRC invites both health care professionals and community volunteers.  Any licensed or certified health care      professional, practicing or retired, living or working in the State of New Jersey can apply to be a member.  Community volunteers who are not health professionals are also encouraged to apply.

 Will volunteers receive training?

Volunteers will need to participate in training and education in order to be adequately prepared should an event occur.

What duties will I perform?

During a public health emergency, volunteers will be asked to perform duties in accordance with their interests, training, and experience.  Such duties might include:

· direct patient care

· administrative duties

· clerical or reception duties

· translation services

 Do I have liability protection?

New Jersey law provides that a volunteer acting in good faith, carrying out, complying with or attempting to comply with, any order, rule or regulation promulgated pursuant to a declared emergency, or performing any authorized service in connection therewith, shall not be liable for any injury or death to persons or damage to property as a result of any such activity.

How can I join?

Log on to http://www.njmrc.nj.go and complete the on-line application.  Residents of Bloomfield, Caldwell, East Orange, Essex Fells, Fairfield, Irvington, Livingston, Maplewood, Millburn, North Caldwell, Orange, Roseland, South Orange, West Caldwell and West Orange.
